Help Us Protect Our Animals

Animals living in the Tropical Conservatory roam free, unimpeded by cages. Oils and bacteria carried on human hands can stress the animals, shortening their lifespan. By not touching the animals, visitors help keep them safe and healthy.

You've heard of a petting zoo - try our touch tank! Touch live sea stars, sea cucumbers and other aquatic invertebrates from the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

Invertebrates Living Underwater!

Invertebrates are animals without backbones. Water helps to support and protect the bodies of sea invertebrates. These animals range in size from the tiniest shrimp to enormous squid.

One of the world's largest invertebrates, the giant squid, has tentacles that can reach up to 60 feet in length! Sea stars, sea cucumbers, sea anemonae and horsehoe crabs are among the invertebrates you will meet and touch at the Water's Edge.

If it creeps, crawls, slithers, flies, wiggles or squirms, chances are you'll find it here. Come for the butterflies, then stay for the spiders, scorpions, millipedes, centipedes, horseshoe crabs, sea stars, and walking sticks. Love to learn? We also offer youth education programming, volunteer opportunities and lifelong learning. Only 15 minutes from downtown Denver. Butterflies are just the beginning.
