Keep a Nature Journal

Explore an area of a park or yard in detail. Choose a specific plant and observe it over several months, tracking growth, types of animals it attracts and other changes. You'll be amazed at the variety of activity you'll find!

Plants can delight our senses with color, texture and fragrance.  In the garden, they also provide vital sources of food and shelter for butterflies and other wildlife.  Native perennials such as Indian blanketflower (Gaillardia aristata) and rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus nauseosus) thrive under sometimes extreme local conditions.

Xeriscape Gardening

In Colorado's dry and sunny climate, xeriscaping is a great way to conserve water while creating a colorful, butterfly-friendly environment. By choosing the right plants and installing water-wise irrigation, gardeners can reduce their water bills while enjoying all the beauty of a traditional garden.

If it creeps, crawls, slithers, flies, wiggles or squirms, chances are you'll find it here. Come for the butterflies, then stay for the spiders, scorpions, millipedes, centipedes, horseshoe crabs, sea stars, and walking sticks. Love to learn? We also offer youth education programming, volunteer opportunities and lifelong learning. Only 15 minutes from downtown Denver. Butterflies are just the beginning.
