Explore exciting nature topics with the whole family. Workshops typically take place the first Saturday of the month from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm.

Saturday January 4, 10:30-12 – Snow Science
What’s the difference between snow, frost, and slush? How can every snowflake possibly be unique? Discover the magic behind snow and even make your own snow in this blustery camp!

Saturday February 1, 10:30-12 – Worm Composting
Worms are wonderful! Join us as we learn about the role that worms and soil play for a healthy habitat, figure out how to compost at home, and take home our very own mini vermi-bins!

Saturday, March 7, 10:30-12 - Grandmother Spider Brings the Sun
In honor of Save a Spider Day (March 14), we will learn all about the legend of grandmother spider, other spiders in mythology and folklore, discover why spiders make webs, get up-close and personal with live arachnid friends, and act out the entire play with your friends! We will also make the clay pot that grandmother spider creates in the tale.

Saturday, April 4, 10:30-12 - Birds, Bugs, BFFs and Bison – at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal
Explore the animal habitats & wildlife of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. Led by expert field guides, we will learn about the difference between a buffalo and a bison, see endangered black footed ferrets, play fun outdoor games, hike through the gorgeous nature preserve, and end with a picnic lunch!
Light snacks & basic sandwich fixins' will be provided. Feel free to bring any additional lunch your family would like!

Saturday, May 2, 10:30-12 – The Colors of Nature – Tie Dye Fun
See how many colors we can find in nature on a colorful hike and bring some white clothing items as we replicate these colors in a tie-dye extravaganza!
Takeaway: Tie dye clothing! (White bandannas will be provided, please feel free to bring other items for dyeing).
Saturday June 6, 10:30-12 Crawdads & Creekwalks
It's summer and our streams are teeming with life! Prepare to get a little wet as we (safely) wade in big dry creek to look for aquatic insects, and find if there are any crawdads in our water feature!

Saturday August 1, 10:30-12: Butterflies at Chatfield Farms
Explore Butterfly Pavilion's native butterfly house at Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield! See the monarchs, painted ladies and other special plants and animals on a guided tour, then explore the farm for a fantastic summer morning.

- Pre-registration and pre-payment required. Nature Nerds Family Club workshops are best suited for families with children ages 4-10.

- Programs are not eligible for senior discounts. Children under 2 years old are free of admission, but content is not well suited for this age range.
