Did you miss The Terrorium Shop's MiniWorlds course? Or loved it so much you want to attend another class? Join us again in this exciting entomology class where you'll learn how to pin butterflies for display!
Join The Terrorium Shop in this exciting entomology class. Insect pinning is a form of display used for entomological study in museums. The Terrorium Shop is Denver’s home for natural history combined with unique art. They provide a variety of entomological specimen displays for home decor and ethically sourced specimens for people to use in their projects.
In this class, you will learn how to mount your very own Sunset Moth specimen or Paper Kite butterfly specimen from start to finish. The class will start off with a short lecture discussing the anatomy and lifestyle habits of the selected specimens. You will learn about relaxing chambers (a container with high humidity to prep the butterfly), the different types, and how to make a quick, easy relaxing chamber from household items. The last portion of the class will be hands-on instructor-led pinning segment for display.
Each person will receive one relaxed specimen of their choice, their own pinning board, a set of entomology pins, and a frame to display their new specimens in.
All insect specimens come from butterfly farms where they have been collected postmortem. Some of these specimens are released back into the wild for population conservation and others are sold to businesses and museums after they live out their full metamorphosis cycle.
