Core Volunteer Opportunities

Our core volunteers are the backbone of our invertebrate zoo! We seek dependable team players, committed to supporting our team and providing the highest standards of guest service.

From engaging with guests at our exhibits, helping care for our plants and animals, to supporting in our offices, we offer a variety of opportunities to suit every interest and skill level. Explore our current openings below, and fill out an application today!

Core Volunteer Requirements

  • Be at least 14 years old. (Some positions have a higher minimum age requirement.)
  • Commit to a minimum of 8 hours of service per month for a minimum of 6 months.
  • Complete an application, interview, and criminal background screening before being selected to join the team.
  • Be able to attend required Volunteer Orientation and Training. Upcoming training dates:
    • Tuesday, Jan. 11th
  • Be able to complete additional training as required by position.
  • Upon acceptance, contribute a one-time $25 materials fee.
  • Be a dependable team player, committed to providing our guests the highest standards of guest service.

Education Group Ambassador Volunteer

Spend mornings outside in beautiful Colorado helping visiting school groups and field trips make memories to last a lifetime! Hone guest service skills while providing the initial welcome to field trips, supply information to make their experience run smoothly, and support them throughout their visit. Must be at least 18 years old and commit to a weekly 8:30 am-2 pm shift for a minimum of 6 months.

Education Registration Assistant Volunteer

Engage with the teachers, parents, and administrators to help plan a positive memorable learning experience at Butterfly Pavilion! The Education Registration Volunteer helps manage the Butterfly Pavilion's registration system, with an emphasis on ensuring a positive, efficient and welcoming guest experience. Learn new skills and make reservations in the online system via phone, e-mail and in person for school groups, community outreach programs, special events, classes, and camps. Must be at least 18 years old and commit to a weekly 8:30 am-2 pm shift for a minimum of 6 months.

Gift Shop Ambassador

Welcome all guests into the Gift Shop and provide an amazing experience to end their visit! Support the retail team and gain experience in various Butterfly Pavilion Gift Shop operations behind the scenes and on the sales floor. Must be at least 16 years old and commit to one 4 hour shift per week.

Front Desk Ambassador

Play an important role in Butterfly Pavilion’s mission to transform the way people think about invertebrates and educate the public about conservation! The Front Desk Ambassador will assist with day-to-day operations of the front desk, ensuring an excellent member and guest experience from the point of entry to the zoo, while processing box office and online admission tickets and selling and renewing memberships. Must be at least 18 years old and commit to at least two 2-4 hour shifts per week.

Exhibit Ambassador

Bring our exhibits to life by helping guests enjoy and learn more about our amazing animals! Highlight unique facts and share up-close animal experiences with guests. This position offers in-depth training and our most flexible scheduling option. Must be at least 14 years old and commit to a minimum 8 hours per month on a flexible or regular schedule. Must be able to attend scheduled Exhibit Ambassador training class following orientation.

Gardening & Horticulture

Help care for our beautiful outdoor gardens and tropical conservatory! Support horticulture staff in developing and maintaining healthy plant collections which provide food and habitat for many animals, both inside and outside the facility. Must be at least 16 years old and commit to a minimum 2 to 3 hour weekly or every other week shift. Gardening & Horticulture shifts are only available mornings and include outdoor work in various weather conditions.
