Bug-A-Boo Returns this October!
Join us this October for a spook-tacular trick-or-treating adventure at Butterfly Pavilion’s annual Halloween extravaganza—Bug-A-Boo!
A cherished Halloween tradition, Bug-A-Boo welcomes families from across Colorado to enjoy a safe, indoor, and stress-free trick-or-treating experience. Children of all ages are invited to come in costume during the last two weekends of October any time during regular visiting hours, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and discover the magic of the invertebrate world while visiting candy and toy stations throughout the zoo.
From toddlers to teenagers, there’s something for everyone at Butterfly Pavilion’s Bug-A-Boo! Experience the captivating world of spiders as you explore arachnid, butterfly, and aquatic exhibits.
And don’t miss Spider Zone—an exotic enclosure filled with hundreds of free-roaming orb-weaving spiders. Here, guests can walk among these incredible arachnids with no glass and no barriers—just you and hundreds of magnificent orb weavers spinning their intricate webs all around.
Bug-A-Boo isn’t just about trick-or-treating; it’s an opportunity to blend Halloween fun with an educational twist! Along the way, your family will discover fascinating spiders and learn about their ecological and cultural importance.

Costume Contest
Show off your creativity and Halloween spirit by joining our exciting Bug-A-Boo Costume Contest! Here’s how to participate:
- Snap a photo in your costume at Butterfly Pavilion.
- Submit your entry by filling out this form.
- Wear a costume that allows for safe movement through the exhibits and one that is appropriate for young families and guests.
- Wait for Butterfly Pavilion’s Green Team to judge the submissions, based on sustainability, creativity, originality, and celebrating invertebrates.
- Win thrilling prizes and be part of the fun!
The three costume categories include:
- “Greenest” – The costume that makes the most innovative use of reused, recycled, compostable or renewable materials.
- “Best Invertebrate” – The costume that best represents and educates about any animal without a backbone.
- “Most Original” – The costume that is unique in imagination and/or construction – the one that makes us laugh, appreciate, or gasp in surprise!Guests can participate in the contest and submit their costumes during Bug-A-Boo!
