Photography & Photoshoot Policy
Welcome to the Butterfly Pavilion! We are delighted that you're interested in capturing the beauty of our exhibits. To ensure a pleasant and safe experience for everyone, we ask that all photographers adhere to our photography/photoshoot guidelines.
Photography for Personal Use
Visitors are welcome to take casual photographs or videos for personal use, including social media, with the following guidelines:
- Personal photography may not be sold or used for commercial purposes.
- Photography is allowed during regular business hours (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) with general admission tickets or a membership.
- Tripods and large external equipment are not permitted during regular hours.
- Flash photography is prohibited in exhibits where signage indicates that flash may harm the animals.
- Please respect other visitors and avoid blocking exhibits or taking over areas.
Photography Options
We offer several options for photography at Butterfly Pavilion, from casual visits to professional photoshoots:
1. Portrait Photoshoots
A portrait photoshoot permit is required for all portrait sessions at Butterfly Pavilion. These sessions are available for:
- Engagement, family, high school senior, wedding, prom, quinceañera, and similar portraits.
- Groups are limited to five (5) people, including photographers and staff.
Details:
- Available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
- $75 per hour.
- Reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance.

2. Commercial & Press Photoshoots
Commercial or press photoshoots must be arranged through the Marketing Department. These include:
- Catalog, fashion, promotional, or advertisement shoots.
- Print, online editorial, TV, or b-roll footage for media.

3. Private Event Photoshoots
For large groups (5 or more) or after-hours events, private event photoshoots can be arranged through our Private Events Department.

General Photography Guidelines
All photoshoot participants must comply with the following guidelines:
- No Animals: Only task-trained service animals are permitted on the premises.
- Clothing: Clients and models must wear appropriate clothing and shoes at all times.
- Dressing/Storage: No dressing rooms or styling areas are provided, unless reserved with a Commercial or Private Photoshoot package.
- Location Restrictions: Photoshoots must not disrupt visitor traffic or access to exhibits, special events, or staff.
- No Drones: The use of drones is strictly prohibited on the premises.
- Preserve Property: Please refrain from disturbing or moving Butterfly Pavilion property, including plants, furniture, and exhibits.
- Vehicle Restrictions: No motorized or non-motorized vehicles allowed, except wheelchairs and strollers.
- Event Exceptions: Professional photography is prohibited during certain events, such as Bugs & Brews or Pollinator Palooza Festival.
Additional Restrictions in Wings of the Tropics:
- No animals (other than task-trained service animals).
- No organic materials like plants, flowers, or potted plants.
- No party items (balloons, candles, confetti, etc.).
- Food and drinks are not permitted inside this exhibit.
- Items must be pre-approved by Curatorial staff.
Photoshoot Reservations
- All photoshoots must be scheduled and pre-approved.
- Unauthorized photoshoots will be asked to cease immediately and may be escorted from the premises.
- All participants in portrait photoshoots must enter Butterfly Pavilion together via the Main Entrance.
Terms & Conditions
- Butterfly Pavilion reserves the right to halt any photoshoot deemed disruptive or violating the guidelines.
- Photoshoot fees support Butterfly Pavilion’s mission to educate the public about invertebrates and their conservation.
