Step into the fascinating realm of butterflies with our exclusive program at Butterfly Pavilion: “Lecture and Flutter.” Immerse yourself in a captivating one-hour lecture led by our knowledgeable experts, where you’ll unravel the secrets of these delicate creatures and gain a deeper understanding of their vital role in nature. Following the enlightening lecture, embark on a self-guided tour through our enchanting gardens, where you can witness the mesmerizing beauty of butterflies up close and personal. Prepare for an unforgettable journey of discovery and wonder at Butterfly Pavilion’s “Lecture and Flutter” experience.

 

Sessions can be selected on a date of your choice, with the recommended time of 1:30- 2:30 pm.

  • Colorado Pollinators
    • Pollinators are essential to our diverse Colorado ecosystem. Dive in to learn about all the bees, butterflies, beetles, moths and more that are the pollinator superheroes of Colorado.  
  • Intro to Inverts
    • Butterfly Pavilion is a world-renowned invertebrate zoo, but what is an invertebrate?? Invertebrates are an incredibly diverse group of animals that help keep our world in balance. During this class, you will meet some live invertebrate guests and have a thrilling intro to invertebrates!

  • Amazing Arachnids
    • Arachnids are a group of arthropods consisting of spiders, harvestman, scorpions, ticks, and mites. They are one of the most feared and misunderstood groups of invertebrates. In this lesson, we go through the anatomy of arachnids, their environmental importance, the most common arachnids around us, and how we can conserve them for the future.

  • Beautiful Butterflies
    • Discover a rainbow of color as you meet face-to-face with tropical butterfly specimen from around the world, and learn about the intriguing behaviors and complex life cycles of our fascinating fluttery friends.
  • Gardening for Pollinators
    • This class will teach you how to create a thriving garden that attracts and supports pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. You will learn about the importance of pollinators, how to choose the right plants for your garden, and how to create a healthy and sustainable garden ecosystem. Whether you are a seasoned gardener or just starting out, this class will equip you with the knowledge and skills to create a beautiful and beneficial garden for both you and the environment.
  • Weird, Wild, & Wacky 
    • Embark on a captivating exploration of the often-overlooked invertebrate world in our one-hour class, “The Weird, Wild, and Wacky Invertebrate World,” where you’ll discover the unique adaptations and surprising behaviors of a wide variety of creatures. From invertebrates thriving in extreme environments to those with record-breaking abilities, this class offers a brief yet unforgettable journey into the fascinating diversity of spineless wonders.
  • Invertebrate Necromancy with Professor Bile (*This program is educational and is a theatrical experience conveyed by an actor in costume*)
    • Years of horror films and monster movies have drawn inspiration from the mind-controlling parasites of the invertebrate world. Now, Butterfly Pavilion offers you a glimpse into the misunderstood lives of these parasitic puppeteers. Our on-staff necromancer will guide you through nature’s myriad methods of mental mastery while they attempt to brew their own potion of mind control. The program also discusses why such grotesque survival strategies develop, while examining our society’s negative views about parasitic organisms. 
  • Bug Noises: Sounds from the Invertebrate World 
    • You can probably recognize the sound of a cricket, cicada, or bumblebee, but did you know that strange noises come from every corner of the invertebrate world? Butterfly Pavilion brings to you a veritable orchestra of invertebrate music (and some of the human music they’ve inspired) to show off the unusual adaptations, body parts, and lifestyles that these bugs bring to bear! This introductory program covers everything you’d want to know about arthropods, with a fun interactive audio component and an encounter with our hissing cockroach animal ambassadors!
